I love fall.
Even though where we live, in central Georgia, it doesn't quite feel completely like fall or look like fall yet (although I'm happy to have temperatures under 100 degrees at least ;) )...I do love this season.
Leaves changing colors, cool breezes, all things pumpkin, the gatherings with family and friends, flannel and bonfires and s'mores, festivals and caramel apples and all things leading up to Thanksgiving and the celebration of gratitude in all things...I just love it all!
One of the things I love most about this season is that we are able to do a little more hiking as a family, now that we don't completely melt when we're outside for more than 15 minutes. Last week the girls had fall break and Mark took the week off of work, so we enjoyed a whole week full of family time. We even managed to squeeze in a quick little two-night getaway to Vogel State Park. We stayed in a little cabin, roasted marshmallows, played board games, explored waterfalls, and hiked until our legs hurt. It was wonderful.
This season, like them all, can get really busy if we let it. School in in full-swing and the projects and homework and to-do lists are piled higher than my eyeballs right now. But the days pass so quickly. And I don't want to miss the beauty and the grace in this season, in these days with my family. So I have to intentionally schedule evenings and days that we will purposefully set aside all the lists and just spend time together. Because I've found that if I don't make some kind of a plan, then the busy days and the crazy lists will take over and I'll look back wondering where the time went. So over the next few weeks we will carve pumpkins and bake cookies, we'll get lost in a corn maze and roast tons of marshmallows, we'll go on a nature hunt and we'll make caramel apples, and we'll hand out hot chocolate and candy to our neighbors...all leading into Thanksgiving and our "thankful tree" that we will fill with all the things we are grateful for. I get excited just thinking about it all. Gosh, I love fall!
